Smit A. Patel, O.D.
Dr. Patel graduated Cum Laude with a Doctorate of Optometry from Marshall B. Ketchum University and is also an alumnus of University of California, San Diego. He completed a residency training program in Primary Eye Care and Low Vision through the San Diego Veterans Affairs Healthcare System. His experience includes internships at the Center for the Partially Sighted in Santa Monica, Veterans Affairs Clinic in Bakersfield, and Hu Hu Kam Memorial Hospital in Arizona.
Michael Guarnotta, O.D.- Emeritus
Dr. Guarnotta was a San Diego native and held a Doctorate of Optometry from University of California, Berkeley School of Optometry and was also an alumnus of San Diego State University. He was a key pillar of the practice carrying it over 30 years. He treated his patients with grace, honesty, and care. Daily we strive to uphold his values and attention to patient care. He is greatly missed.
JAY KOVTUN, O.D. - EMERITUS
Dr. Kovtun holds a Doctorate of Optometry from the Pacific University College of Optometry and has been serving San Diego’s East County his entire career. He is the founding doctor of this practice and takes great pride in optometry and humanitarian services. Dr. Kovtun has retired from the field of Optometry after practicing over 50 years.

Our Specialty...Eyes
East County Family Optometry provides complete eye care services to adults and children including:
•Comprehensive eye exams. We evaluate visual acuity, the need for corrective lenses, eye muscle coordination, and overall ocular health.
•Contact lens fittings include options that are the latest in contact lens technology. We look for lenses that provide the greatest comfort, vision, and health. We fit lenses for astigmatism as well as multi-focal contact lenses.
•We diagnose and manage ocular disease including conditions related to diabetes, hypertension, and other systemic problems. We also treat red eyes, pink eyes, purple eyes, yellow eyes, black eyes.
